For the milestone that is our 10th release at Context Audio, we are very pleased to welcome none other than Mystic State back to the label for their second outing; the tour de force Circles EP.
Coming correct with 2 original tunes and a dope remix of Bone’s Velour, the EP is another in a string of solid releases from Context and yet another gentle meander through the deeper side of halftime drum and bass.
Circles, the opening shot, is blessed out,blissful and beautifully engineered. It’s a powerful, rounded track that’s ideal for bringing a bit of depthto DJ sets or for just zoning out to at home. It juxtaposes sparsity with a strong joie de vivre and is, simply, vibes.
The EP’s B side, Sling Blade, couldn’t be more different. It’s dark, moody and prowls close to the ground like a hungry monster. Make no mistake, this is a weaponised stepper of the highest order.
Things round off with a remix of Bone’s Velour, taken from our 4th release. Going against expectations and convention, Mystic State have taken what was a powerfully ornamental track and turned it up to eleven. Now replete with an ethereal vocal that’s both haunting and elating, there mix has made a good thing even better. A sublime cut for the discerning listener, it’s soul music in the very literal sense.
